This course seeks to explore the role of literacy leaders and literacy coaches in schools. Students will learn a wide range of leadership skills through the study of adult learning, professional development, and research-based coaching practices. The course includes examination, discussion, and application of the following topics: 1) the principles of adult learning and motivation; 2) the role of coaching in reflective practice; 3) the analysis of professional development models that contribute to school-wide literacy practices; and 4) the development of quality relationships with colleagues and the school community.
